What to Expect in Google I/O 2012: Google Tablets, Google Cloud, and More Android Apps
The Google IO 2012 is set to take place on June 27-29, 2012 at Moscone Center, San Francisco. Developers and spectators alike are all anticipating the upcoming news and updates for the Google IO 2012.
What Can We Expect?
A lot of news and rumors had began circulating, about a possible new release of new Google updates and gadgets during the Google IO 2012.
Here is a brief summary of the things that people can expect during the said event:
Google Tablet
For years, rumors about a Google tablet had been making the rounds, and it seems like the Google IO 2012 is a perfect place to announce this event. According to reports, Google will be picking up a 7-inch tablet by Taiwanese-based firm, Asus with the Nexus brand name. It will supposedly include the latest Android version which is Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and would have a lower price selling price of US$199. This is Google's lower end tablet which can rival Amazon Kindle Fire. This new tablet would also likely compete with Microsoft's newest tablet, Surface.
Google Android and Apps
The Google IO 2012 would be a venue for Google to attract more developers to invest in Android. Developers have a hard time in developing apps for Android because of the wide target of Android-based devices. This is not the case for Apple wherein developers just need to target at least 1-2 devices. Aside from developers, Google is also planning to attract more customers in utilizing Android because of its wide range of options for customers.
Google Cloud
Google would also reportedly announce their new cloud services platform which would rival other companies offering cloud services. Here is an excerpt from the said news report. Google is hard at work on a cloud computing offering that will compete directly with the popular Amazon EC2 cloud, according to a source familiar with Google's plans. Not to be outdone, other sources have confirmed Microsoft is also building an Infrastructure as a Service platform, and that the Redmond cloud will be ready - or at least announced - before Google's. According to my sources, Google should roll out its service for renting virtual server instances by the end of the year, while Microsoft is slating its big announcement for a June 7 event in San Francisco.
Google has not denied nor confirmed any of the rumored topics for the upcoming Google IO 2012.
