With Spider-Man rebooted in the upcoming movie based on "contemporary" script by James Vanderbilt, fans would certainly like to know if Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man/Peter Parker would pursue a career other than a free lance photographer.

Set in high school, the Spider-Man reboot movie could renew Peter Parker's start as a shutterbug as well to make for a more contemporary feel. In a modern setting, Peter Parker could be a teenager who uploads YouTube content, or maintains a Twitter account to post pictures of the latest adventures of his super hero alter ego, rather than just being photographer for a newspaper.

But it does seem that Peter Parker is bound to the press. Fans cannot separate the web-coated camera flashing on and off as Spider-Man battles it out with his enemies. Spider-Man's association with the media seem intrinsic on the character itself and to the plot as well, as cultural historian Bradford W. Wright notes:

"Spider-Man's plight was to be misunderstood and persecuted by the very public that he swore to protect. In the first issue of The Amazing Spider-Man, J. Jonah Jameson, publisher of the Daily Bugle, launches an editorial campaign against the "Spider-Man menace."

"The resulting negative publicity exacerbates popular suspicions about the mysterious Spider-Man and makes it impossible for him to earn any more money by performing. Eventually, the bad press leads the authorities to brand him an outlaw. Ironically, Peter finally lands a job as a photographer for Jameson's Daily Bugle."

Indeed, the dualism in Spider-Man is much pursued in through out the series, catapulating with Venom in the last of Sam Raimi's Spider-Man movies. That Peter Parker is with the media, plus the hounding of bad publicity by the Daily Buggle, just seem to help the plot move on. What fans are really after is: How will the new Spider-Man movie reboot Peter Parker's beginnings with the press?
