Speaking about Neal and Peter's relationship, Jeff Eastin, creator of "White Collar," said to Zap2it, "We did that entire season with Neal's dad, and the parallel we were trying to draw there is he may have a biological father, but really Peter is the person who most shaped who Neal is now. Neal's always had a soul, but Peter really gave him the morality to go with that soul."
The premiere episode of the final "White Collar" season saw Neal discovering that his abductor, an associate of Rebecca, wants to join the Pink Panthers gang. Neal saw a window of opportunity to get his freedom, as the FBI has been hunting the Pink Panthers for decades without much success. He successfully passed the infamous gang's audition to become its member. He told Peter that he would help the FBI catch the gang members in exchange for his freedom. Later, Neal indicated to Mozzie that he has another plan, too. Also in the episode, Rebecca killed herself after helping Peter track down her associate. And, Elizabeth quit her new job and returned to New York. She told Peter that she is pregnant.

Also in the episode, Neal will be shocked to know that Keller is part of the Pink Panthers. According to the synopsis of the episode, "when Neal finds out that Keller is now part of the Panthers, Peter wants to call off the mission and simply take Keller down once and for all, but Neal knows that this is his last chance. He can't trust Keller and can't figure out why he didn't sell him out to the Panthers right away, unless Keller needs something from him..."
Meanwhile, Pillar will be seen telling Peter that if Neal's plan fails to deliver the Pink Panthers, Peter, too, could lose his job, according to the synopsis of the episode.
