The chief florist at the White House left her job earlier in 2014. Sources claim that first lady Michelle Obama may have something to do with her sudden departure.

While the official version of Laura Dowling’s departure does not indicate anything scandalous, sources claim that Dowling was escorted after she had resigned from her job. There was an alleged clash between the first lady and the chief florist over aesthetics but it has not been verified. Dowling had served the White House for around six years before she was escorted out on Feb. 13.

According to statement from the first lady’s office, Dowling and her team treated guests of the White House to their beautiful floral arrangements. Her creations were always lively and colourful, reflecting not only the season but the unique and historic rooms which they graced, it says.

The statement further says that Dowling’s creations always left guests with a lasting impression of the elegance and history of the People’s House as no two arrangements were ever the same. “We are grateful for her contribution over the years and wish her well,” the statement says.

Intérieurs et Fleurs, Dowling’s Alexandria floral design shop, also issued a statement via the law firm Sidley Austin on the departure. The statement says that she resigned in order to pursue exciting new opportunities and explore her passion for floral artistry and design.

The statement also says that Dowling is going to launch a new platform for her work as an author, speaker, instructor and design consultant that builds on the creative ideas and partnerships she has formed during her tenure at the White House. Dowling adds that it has been an honour to work at the White House and she will always be grateful for this incredible opportunity.

Dowling’s silent exit is pretty contrasting to her entry to the White House. She won a reality TV-style competition by designing a floral arrangement for a mock state dinner and succeeded Nancy Clarke for the top post. Dowling’s departure has apparently surprised many. However, the White House has reportedly discouraged its staff from “trying to come up with their own conclusions.”
