Sunday night's 54th annual Grammy Awards went on under a pall a day after the death of music legend and powerhouse singer Whitney Houston. She died on Saturday leaving a devastated family at her wake.

One of the most celebrated pop singers of the 1980s and '90s, Whitney Houston, was pronounced dead at 3:55 p.m. Saturday in her room at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. A tragic loss to Hollywood, her family and her fans, Whitney died at the age of 48.

Her daughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown, who was staying at the same hotel, was taken to the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center at Los Angeles, after her mother's untimely death. The 18-year old singer's daughter was released a few hours later. Bobbi was diagnosed with stress and anxiety. Who wouldn't? Knowing she had not only lost a mother but a best friend as well, Bobbi is in "complete breakdown".

Despite having been divorced, Bobby Brown was "deeply saddened" by the unfortunate passing of his ex-wife. During his concert, New Edition, at Southaven last Saturday night, Bobby held back tears and said a few words to his audience.

"Just say a prayer for my daughter, say a prayer for her mother, and if you find the time please say a prayer for me because I am going to need it," said Bobby Brown.

Bobby Brown released another statement dated Sunday.

"I am deeply saddened at the passing of my ex-wife, Whitney Houston. At this time, we ask for privacy, especially for my daughter, Bobbi Kristina. I appreciate all of the condolences that have been directed towards my family and I at this most difficult time," said Brown.

Bobby and Bobbi Brown, aren't the only members devastated by the loss. Her mother, gospel singer Cissy Houston, broke down in tears at the news of her daughter's death.

"We are devastated by the loss of our beloved Whitney. This is an unimaginable tragedy and we will miss her terribly. We appreciate the outpouring of love and support from her fans and friends," said Cissy Houston.

Whitney Houston is definitely one great loss to Hollywood and in the music industry but her legacy will live on in her fans and all her songs.
