Who Truly Deserves a Fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Who do you think truly deserves a fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr.?
There have been rumours circling over the Internet that the Mayweather-Khan bout is already being finalised. Other professional boxers have also expressed their interest in fighting the best pound-for-pound boxer of all time like Bernard Hopkins, to name one. However, the main question is - who's the fighter that can match Mayweather's skills and bring him down, or may be his first-ever defeat in his entire professional boxing career?
Mayweather's playing skills are tremendous. He definitely remains undefeated for no reason, that's for sure. His got some slick boxing tricks matched with amazing defensive and offensive skills.
Here, we break down the list of the possible challengers who will fight the unbeaten five-division champion, as reported by the Boxing Insider.
Amir Khan
As mentioned prior, it has been reported that the bout between Khan and Mayweather are in the final talks. Khan is definitely in the running to face Floyd in Las Vegas on May 3. The British boxer is quick. He is probably the only boxer who can match Floyd in terms of speed. He can box, but some say that he can't take a punch. Whether or not he deserves a fight with Floyd, you be the judge.
Bernard Hopkins
Old timer Hopkins also wants to have a historic fight with Floyd. It is not always that we see old timers fight younger boxers. Thus, a fight between that two will be an attention-grabbing event, and something out of the ordinary. According to the Boxing Insider, the Mayweather-Hopkins fight would be like the infamous Super Bowl.
Gennady Golovkin
Golovkin is gradually making his name known in the boxing industry. They say he's the new "it" guy. However, he is at 160 pounds. Floyd may not be willing to bring up his weight because he didn't even meet Saul Alvarez at 152 catchweight.
Manny Pacquiao
This is the fight that people would want to see. However, it is most likely that it will never happen. Pacquiao has already lost two times in his last fights, which give Mayweather more reasons to not fight him at all. Some say that the fight between the two is still possible if Pacquiao wins on his upcoming fight against Brandon Rios on Nov. 23. We highly doubt it because if the two are really interested to fight each other, it should have happened many years ago. But then again, who knows?
Timothy Bradley
Bradley may be the best option. He also remains undefeated, having won all his 32 fights. He maybe a little short of height and he probably does not have knockout power, but he certainly would be an interesting challenger to Mayweather.
