Why Iron Man 3 Will Be The Best Trilogy
There is no doubt about it, Tony Stark and his alter ego Robert Downey Jr. has been on top of the hierarchy-even in the star-studded Avengers film. The latest (and last) film in the franchise is generating ample buzz, but is it well-deserved? Read on to find out why this installment is set to be the best of the amazing Iron Man trilogy.
'Bigger and badder'
Don Cheadle was an inspired addition (slash replacement) in the second Iron Man film, and the award-winning actor remains tight-lipped about what's in store for viewers in this third one. Cheadle does hint that the movie will be more explosive than previous installments. "I would just say that the sort of relationship these guys have gets tighter and the third act set piece, the big finale, is bigger and badder," Cheadle revealed during the Television Critics Association press tour. "So it's a lot more, 'more.'"
Ben Kingsley/Mandarin
Iron Man's archenemy Mandarin gets the recognition it deserves. Although a villain, Mandarin is a great character and it will be played by a great thespian Sir Ben Kingsley. It's hard to imagine this veteran actor playing one of the most memorable bad guys in the Marvel universe, but the trailer shows Kingsley can pull it off. Given his stature as an actor, is it really a surprise that Kingsley almost overshadows the superstar Iron Man? The face-off between these two characters will surely be a climax worth watching.
The Tony/Pepper romance
Superhero movies should not be turn into big sap-fests, but that doesn't mean the audience does not enjoy a little romance onscreen in the middle of the exciting explosion scenes. Although the Iron Man trilogy does not dwell much on the budding relationship of Tony and Pepper Potts, it is apparent that the friendship that was there in the first film has blossomed into a deep romance by the third. A central plot in the storyline is Tony's struggle with Pepper's vulnerability by being so close to him.
Iron Army
The only thing more overwhelming than one Iron Man? An army of Iron Men. In this newest installment, it seems as if viewers will finally see what happens when the advanced technology is multiplied to produce an army-not just a superhero group, but an army-of powerful men. Whether initially for good or for evil, it is apparent this plan will soon go sour-which makes for an incredible storyline.
Tony's struggle
"Why can't I sleep?" A simple statement, but one that speaks volumes about Tony Starks' internal struggle. Throughout his Iron Man journey, rarely does the audience see the man truly vulnerable. The promise of a glimpse at this side of Tony is enticing, and injects a weight to this final installment that is not present in the first two. After all, the bigger the damage at the beginning usually results in an even bigger redemption in the end, and no other superhero redeems himself quite like Tony Stark.
