Many people believe that if American Idol was judged by sole talent alone, then Jessica Sanchez would have taken home the title and would be crying in sheer joy as confetti showers on stage. But usually, talent is not the deciding factor that is why experts say that Jessica had no chance in snagging the "Idol" crown against Phillip Phillips.

According to Richard Rushfield, author of the book "American Idol: The Untold Story", for the past four consecutive seasons the "Idol" title has been awarded to the "cute dude" who plays the guitar.

It is a trend which "Idol" aficionados call the "WGWG" or the "White Guy With Guitar" syndrome. Rushfield said that since America crowned David Cook, Kris Allen, Lee DeWyze and Scotty McCreery, there's no reason why they wouldn't do it again for Phillip Phillips.

"Jessica cannot win," Rushfield said in assurance.

"Unless there is some sort of act of God comes down, the cute white boy dynasty seems well entrenched. Any smart betting person would have to guess that having done this four times, they will do it a fifth." added the expert.

Although the show has just finished their 11th season and produced 11 winners, it is notable that the most successful post "Idol" careers belong to two ladies. Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood. The two made it big after being crowned winner, something that other winners failed to achieve.

So the question is, were these "Idol" voters really voting for the best in talent or simply following a trend? Rushfield added that voters who are predominantly teenage girls always go for the "WGWG."

"You have this alliance between young girls and grandmas and they see it, not necessarily as a contest to create a pop star competing on the contemporary radio, but who's the nicest guy in a popularity contest," Richard explained.

Whether or not it was the "WGWG" syndrome or that he truly was more deserving talent wise against Jessica Sanchez, Phillip Phillips was already announced winner. The only thing he and his supporters can do is hope that his career would not prematurely end before it could even begin.
