Why PS4 is a Developer-Friendly Console, PS Plus Free Titles Announced & What You Can Get at the PSN Summer Sale
The next-gen console war between the PS4 and the Xbox One has been going since the reveals, highlighted by the E3 2013 where PS4 seemed to be the all-out winner, and more recently, reached a sort of plateau when Microsoft reversed its policy for used games and DRM, to stand at par (supposedly) with the PS4.
However, it seems that gamers are still more willing to go with the PS4 as their next-gen console of choice--and Edge magazine is one of those that have been more vocal on what they think should be the next console to dominate your living room.
CVG reports that the latest issue of Edge has hit stands, and has "This is your next console. Why the only option right now is PS4" on the cover. Of course, this is the magazine stand, but the issue promises to detail the whys and how's of the PS4 being your console of choice, too.
Aside from this, developers are also warming up to the PS4, not just because of the specs, but also because of their leniency and friendliness to developers, both indie and mainstream.
In an interview with the Official PlayStation Magazine, David Cage, creator of the PS4 exclusive game Beyond: Two Souls, sees the PS4 as the technology that lets you do a lot with subtlety in tow.
"Technology is something that will give you more subtlety and more nuances in what you do," he said to Official PlayStation Magazine. "You could do it with anything [any genre] and this is what this new generation of hardware brings: it's a better tool."
Graphics is also something to take note of, punctuated by connectivity of the console and its multiplayer aspects. This may be highlighted by the change in policy with the PS Plus, which, for $50 per year, you can get more additional content, discounts, and freebies.
"I'm very interested also in the connectivity of the console and the fact that the overlapping multiplayer, social aspect becomes easier," Cage said. "In general, I really like the fact that developing on PlayStation 4 is way easier than developing on PlayStation 3."
Other developers surely share the same thoughts as Cage, which can mean that the PS4 may be looking at more titles coming out of the next-gen console after its shipment begins this holiday season.
Free titles hitting PS Plus this July
Sony is spearheading another pack-load of free games this month for PS3 players with a PS Plus subscription, with Battlefield 3 being one of the free titles for July.
Four more games have been announced, according to Game Informer, including Jet Set Radio and Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee for the PS3, Dokuro for the PS Vita, and Metal Slug XX for the PSP and PS Vita.
Note that these titles will hit the PlayStation Plus Instant Game Collection one at different times, so best to check out the collection every time you can.
And with the new month rolling in, you can also expect some previously offered titles to be going off grid, with one title signing off every Tuesday of the month starting with Deus Ex; Hitman Revolution signing off at July 2.
This will be followed by Joe Danger 2: The Movie on July 9, The Cave on July 16, Germinator on July 23, and Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward on July 30, so be sure to get these titles before they're out.
