Why Rock told Woods to "Stand Still"
On one occasion while playing with Tiger Woods in the Abu Dhabi HSBC Open on Sunday, Robert Rock, in his loudest voice, barked at the world famous American: "Stand still, please."
But it wasn't intentional.
In fact, Rock didn't think it was Woods he was hollowing at in a clearly irritated manner.
He thought that the person making the noise as he was setting up to tee off at the 10th hole was an official.
Rock was given cause on a number of occasions to glare at individuals in the large and noisy galleries that inevitably follows 14-time major winner Woods, snapping pictures or pushing and pulling to better their respective views of the on-course proceedings.
"There was a couple of marshals had gone off the side of the tee and they were making quite a bit of noise," recalled Rock, who went on to surprise the golfing world and beat Woods by two strokes to claim his second European Tour title after sharing the overnight lead.
"I had got ready to hit my iron shot and I heard the same noise and just assumed it was the same guy I had been looking (glaring) at so without looking up I let him have it.
Rock barked, "Stand still, please," at what he thought was the noisy Marshall only to find it was Woods.
Fortunately there was no harm done to their good relationship..
"Tiger just laughed and he was fine," Rock said with a smile. "But I shouldn't have done that, I suppose"
