The cannabis plant, particularly hemp, is one of the oldest plants that’s been cultivated for a number of uses. According to the Guinness World Records, the earliest documented sample was found in a piece of cloth somewhere in China. Asia, in particular, has been known for using the plant to make fishnets, sails and paper.

Its medicinal uses are also not lost among ancient civilisations, with countries like China and Turkey using it as a mild sedative and painkiller. And yet today, the cannabis plant is persecuted for all the wrong reasons, blaming the psychoactive features that align it with the world’s most dangerous drugs.

In the US, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) classified marijuana (another type of cannabis plant) in its Controlled Substance Act, making it in the list of drugs with no medical benefit and a high probability of abuse and addiction. It remains there up to now. This classification has affected even hemp, categorising the plant with marijuana since they come from the same family.

Marijuana was categorised as a Schedule 1 drug because of its psychoactive properties, thanks to the compound tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). Hemp, on the other hand, only contains small traces of THC and more cannabidiol (CBD), which counteracts the psychoactive properties of marijuana.

The cannabis industry, however, is experiencing some kind of revolution.

Medical communities have been vocal about their findings regarding the benefits of CBD oil, and even the World Health Organization (WHO) acknowledged that pure CBD “ does not appear to have abuse potential or cause harm.”

On the other hand, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently approved the first medicine made from CBD called Epidiolex, known to address two types of epilepsy. Hemp is now considered legal in most states and is being used in various ways such as an ingredient for hygiene and beauty products, as well as a material for industrial parts like concrete (which makes the material lighter). As a result, hemp-derived CBD is considered legal, per Esquire.

CBD’s medical benefits

An increasing number of people are now starting to see the good that hemp CBD offers medically. Compared to CBD from marijuana, the one from hemp gives all the medical benefits without the risk of getting high thanks to the aforementioned low THC content. There is proof that CBD can be used to address chronic pain, insomnia, mild depression and seizures.

CBD products come in many forms such as oils, creams, tinctures and even vape products, among others, and they are all capable of soothing muscle pain and easing the difficulty to sleep.

A brand safe to use

Now, the problem comes with knowing which products to trust. Since the FDA has formally approved only of Epidiolex, there’s no way of knowing exactly what brands are safe to use.

With the shift in the regulations concerning CBD, it is a big advantage that companies like PotNetwork Holdings, Inc. (OTCMKTS: POTN) exist to close this gap and to address doubts in the market. POTN, through subsidiary Diamond CBD, offers customers real, trusted and high-quality products.

The company is one of the fastest growing hemp-derived CBD businesses to date. It also reported more than US$10 million (AU$13.6 million) in sales , thanks to its Diamond CBD products from January to May of 2018 — almost double what they made in the same period last year.

POTN is focused on research, development, and multinational marketing of premium hemp extracts taken from organic, non-GMO farms the company has partnered with. These extracts were derived using Supercritical Extraction, considered to be the gentlest approach in extracting CBD from hemp.

Most benefits from CBD can be expected from best-selling products like Chill Plus Gummies, Diamond CBD Double Shot, Chong’s Choice CBD for vaping, and unflavoured Diamond CBD oil which offers the medical benefits of hemp in its purest form.

There is still so much to unlock when it comes to the boons that come with CBD, and the US federal government should be open to the possibility of reviewing its many uses and effects. There’s a growing demand for CBD benefits, and the only way to really make it safe is to make the substance legal for proper regulation.
