Windows 10 Essential Features: New Start Menu Button, Multitasking, Task View, Virtual Desktops And Battery Saver
The upcoming Windows 10 OS version for desktop and laptop computers will feature several amazing tweaks including the return of the Start Menu, update notifications centre, support for multiple desktops and a native battery saver. Find out the details from the official announcement by Microsoft.
Return Of The Original Start Menu
Windows 8 and 8.1 do not feature the original concept of the Start Menu button, which appeared in previous versions of the operating system. But on Windows 10, Microsoft decided to bring it back complete with having old functionalities such as list of programs, recently used programs and more. However, it comes with design factor based on the Modern User Interface and search engine used on Windows 8.
Improved Multitasking With Task Viewer
Apps from Windows Store can now be launched in the same format as desktop apps. These apps can also be resized and moved around with title bars at the top of the windows for maximise, minimise and close functionalities. Aside from resizable windows of apps, Task View has been added to quickly switch between open files or programmes and quick access to any created desktops.
Multiple Desktops On A Single Screen
Normally, enabling multiple desktops for Windows 8 or Windows 7 will either require third-party Virtual Desktop Managers or another monitor connected to the machine. But Windows 10 supports multiple desktops by using a native virtual desktop manager to let users open and utilise several desktops for different purposes and can be switched easily.
Updated Notifications Centre
Notifications received on Windows 7 and Windows 8 can sometimes disappear quickly before the user has a chance to read them. Windows 10 will feature an updated version, which compiles all notifications in one area for users to review anytime. It is expected to be located at the Notifications Area where system icons and the clock are found.
Native Battery Saver
Battery performance on laptops running Windows are dependent on default Power Options found in the Control Panel while brand manufacturers install battery optimisers on laptops such as Dell's Desktop Mode and Extended Battery Life on Inspiron 14 3421, which can easily be turned on by users without going through complicated choices. On Windows 10, users will finally receive a native battery saver that conserves battery by limiting background activity and adjusting hardware settings.
Windows 10 is expected to unify all Windows devices into one platform having similar Modern UI and Live Tiles. Advanced PC users can now download the Technical Preview of Windows 10 with the option to become a part of Windows Insider Program for VIP access of new updates, first-hand test drive of new software features and submit feedback for the upcoming OS version.
