'Winds of Winter' release date expected by October 2017
The highly anticipated “Winds of Winter” could be released in October 2017, or at least the release date could be announced at that time. George R. R. Martin will be releasing a new story from Westeros around that time, and this is being seen as an indication that the book will soon follow.
Martin has expressed his confidence about releasing the book this year. According to a report by Watchers on the Wall, a new book titled “Book of Swords” will be released in October. This is a collection of fifteen original tales about swords and sorcery from various authors, and one of these stories is by Martin.
The new story from Martin is not a sample chapter from the next book in “A Song of Ice and Fire,” but is based in Westeros. The report notes that the author has “dozens” of finished chapters from his upcoming book that he can release to the fans, many of these chapters he has already released online or has read at various events.
Given that Martin has already released 11 sample chapters from “Winds of Winter” in different platforms, the report suggests that it is unlikely that the author will include any more in the new anthology. This is especially true if he feels he can release the book this year.
The report notes that from a marketing stand point it makes sense to release the anthology close to the release of the next book in “A Song of Ice and Fire,” and ride the popularity wave. Fans of the franchise who have been waiting for the book for such a long time would be interested in reading a story based in Westeros, if there is enough excitement about the impending release of the book.
The report suggests that there are two possibilities. One is that Martin releases his next book before October 2017, to help promote the book by his friend. The other possibility is that author announces the release of the book at that time, and suggests the fans pick up “Book of Swords” while they wait.
If “Winds of Winter” is not released in October 2017, the report suggests that Martin could announce the release date to be winter of 2018. Although he has been called a slow writer, Martin has been busy lately with his “Wild Cards” series. He finished the first novel in this new series in October 2016, he finished the second book in December, and has now delivered the third and final book manuscript to the publishers.
