'Winds of Winter': The ‘unburnt’ controversy of Daenerys that George R.R. Martin needs to address
“Game of Thrones” Season 6 seemingly revealed the fate of Daenerys and her plans in “Winds of Winter.” One scene, however, has got the fans confused and it is up to the author George R. R. Martin to address the controversy surrounding the character in his next book.
[Spoiler alert]
Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) finally took control of her situation in the popular HBO TV series by burning all the Khals and essentially becoming the queen of the Dothraki. While the Khals burnt in the fire that she lit, Daenerys walked out of it unscathed, just as she did in the very first season of the TV series.
This leads to the pertinent question of whether Daenerys is immune to fire all the time. The author has a different take on the character from the TV series. He has said that the birth of dragons was “unique, magical, wondrous, a miracle,” NZHerald reports. Martin pointed out that Danny has the title of “The Unburnt” because she walked out of the fire at that time, but not all Targaryens are immune to fire. Her brother surely wasn’t immune to the molten gold.
So, will Daenerys use a different method to subdue her Dothraki captors in “Winds of Winter”? Or will the author have something new and interesting for the fans in his next book?
Some of the fans, however, have already made up their minds. They blame the writers of “Game of Thrones” David Benioff and D.B. Weiss for misunderstanding the lore of “A Song of Ice and Fire.” The scene may have had a dramatic effect on TV, but the some of the fans of the book series are surely not happy.
More spoilers from “Winds of Winter” are expected to be revealed as the TV series progresses. There is still no sight of a release date of the book, so the fans have to depend on the show to guess at the events in the book. The TV series and the books have deviated to a large extent, leaving room for some surprises for the fans in the book series.
