‘Winds of Winter’ update: George RR Martin skips Brazil Comic Con, Busy with Stokercon
Attending Comic Cons and other such events is one of the sources of joy for George RR Martin. However, such events take precious time away from writing, and have admittedly caused some delay in the release of the next instalment of “A Song of Ice and Fire.” The author has, for the past few years, limited his attendance of such events, and this year he has skipped an event in Brazil.
Replying on his official blog, Martin confirmed that he has postponed attending the Brazil Comic Con to 2018 or 2019. The author did not give a specific reason for the decision.
In the past, Martin had said that he is trying to reduce the number of events he attends, in order to focus more on writing. However, it should be noted that attending events is just one of the things that has led to the delay in the release of his next book. The author has been busy with some of his other books and series, apart from working with HBO for another TV show.
Martin also refrained from writing for the popular “Game of Thrones” TV series. He has, however, not stopped going to events altogether. He has attended a few events that he had committed to long before, and continues to take part in a few every year.
The celebrity author is currently in California, attending the annual gathering of the Horror Writers Association, called Stokercon, and the presentation of the Bram Stoker Awards.
While Martin will be busy sharing his thoughts during the interview at Stokercon, he will have to miss out on the NFL Draft. Apart from attending events, interacting with fans and good food, the author also takes great pleasure in watching sports.
In a blog post, Martin rued the fact that Stokercon is at the same time as the NFL Draft. He, however, was hopeful that he will still be able to catch some highlights by watching ESPN on the ship. The event is taking place on Queen Mary ship this year. There is no fan interaction for the author, but he will be signing books.
Martin described his current mood as “busy” in his post. The author has not given any updates on the release of “Winds of Winter.” He has confirmed in the past that most of the work is already complete, with just a few months of writing remaining. But, another cause for the delay is the extensive rewriting that he tends to do.
