'Wonder Woman' updates: Mattel releases new dolls based on Gal Gadot
"Wonder Woman" hits theatres in June 2, 2017
In anticipation of the New York Toy Fair, Mattel provided a preview of its upcoming “Wonder Woman” movie toy collection. The dolls are particularly inspired by Gal Gadot, who will play the titular DC heroine.
Based on the early photos on Entertainment Weekly, there are several upcoming Wonder Woman dolls. She will appear in her classic blue, red and gold costume. Wonder Woman will also feature various accessories, such as a golden tiara, armband, silver forearm covers and shin guards. In the images, the DC character wielded items like a sword, shield, bow and arrow and lasso.
One of the Wonder Woman Mattel dolls wore a short gold dress, with a leather quiver and high sandals. Her hair can be tied, braided or hang loose. The next image showed the character in an elegant blue dress, while another featured Wonder Woman riding on a black steed with gold accessories. She had a black cape over her shoulders.
Another version of Wonder Woman in a brown outfit and sandals stood by a Steve Trevor doll. Chris Pine is not included in the new Mattel collection. The Diana and Steve two-pack costs $26.99. There are also life-size versions of some of Wonder Woman’s weapons, including her sword, tiara, bracers and bow and arrow, with the arrows replaced by padded darts.
The photos also included a Queen Hippolyta doll, Wonder Woman’s mother, riding a white horse. She and her beautiful steed had flowing blonde hair and golden accessories. Hippolyta was holding a sword and shield and had a crown on her head. The figurine and horse reportedly costs $29.99. Connie Nielsen will play the Amazonian queen in “Wonder Woman.”
Based on a report by Comics Alliance, it is the first time that Mattel featured a full line based only on Wonder Woman. The character will apparently arrive in different costumes, including training attire and battle armor. The prices of the upcoming Mattel Wonder Woman dolls range anywhere between $15 and $30, while the weapons cost around $20. Fans expect to see the actual versions of the toys at the New York Toy Fair later in February 2017.
In 2016, Mattel featured special Barbie doll versions of Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman in time for “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.” More DC characters may arrive as the “Wonder Woman” release date approaches.
The solo “Wonder Woman” film will launch on June 2, 2017. More updates and details are expected soon.
