Words Your iPhone Cannot Understand: Apple Auto Correct Blindspots
The latest iOS on Apple devices like iPod touch, iPad or iPhone will refuse certain words according to reports. When users input words like "virginity", "abortion", "ammo", "bullet" and "rape", the operating system will refuse to provide the correct word.
Daily Beast, an American news and opinion site, conducted an analysis on automate software including Apple's iOS . The site tested the program using two different misspelling for around 250,000 words. The results of the test also indicated that Apple refuses to suggest the right words to specific words even if highlighted wrong.
"For example, if a user types 'abortiom' with an 'm' instead of an 'n', the software won't suggest a correction, as it would with nearly 150,000 other words," The Daily Beast published.
The Daily Beast published a blog post where they explained the results of the analysis. The site decided to conduct the following test following reports from people developing interactive programs on abortion clinics found that their iPhone will not suggest some words.
"We noticed that iOS never autocorrected this word when we misspelt it, and when we would double-tap the word to get spelling suggestions, the correctly spelt word was never an option," The Daily Beast's report said.
The Daily Beast also indicated that there were several words that Apple failed to correct. Earlier versions of the iPad and the iPhone were able to correct the terms.
"I hate to say it, but I don't think this should surprise anyone," Jillian York, the director for international freedom of expression at the Electronic Frontier Foundation explained. Censorship has been an issues for the last few years.
