World Cup 2014 Finals: A Test of Which Pope's Prayer is More Powerful, Francis or Benedict

It seems that for this year's 2014 World Cup series, not only are the fans and players praying and hoping for global football supremacy. Even Pope Francis and Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI are for sure already storming the heavens for their countries' respective teams. The question now is - whose prayers are most efficient to breakthrough heaven's gate enough to be answered and granted?

Pope Francis of Argentina is known to be an ardent soccer aficionado, while Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI of Germany is also a big football fan.

In June, Pope Francis pledged absolute neutrality for the World Cup, but that was in so far as Brazil and Argentina are concerned because they had always been opponents.

But earlier this month, Francis told his Swiss Guards, "it's going to be war!" albeit jokingly, before Argentina played Switzerland.

It would be close to lying if the 77-year-old pope isn't praying for the team of his homeland Argentina.

"He absolutely wants for Argentina to win," Peter Saunders, a victim of sexual abuse from England who met Francis on Monday, told the Boston Globe. "He didn't say it out loud, but you could see it in his eyes, he's a closet fan."
