World No. 1 Serena Williams Is Never Vulnerable, Says Maria Sharapova
World no. 2 Maria Sharapova is never too lax about anything. In fact, when the opinion about Serena Williams being labelled as "vulnerable" started to circulate, she immediately dismissed the notion and expressed her non-acceptance of the said opinion. According to the Russian tennis superstar, Serena Williams is never vulnerable.
The observation about Williams' vulnerability is based on the tennis star's failure to bag any of the first four Grand Slam titles of 2014. In fact, she was out of the Australian Open, French Open, and the Wimbledon quite early. However, these notions were dismissed when the 33-year-old bounced back to win the US Open Grand Slam title in September and the WTA Tour Finals title in Singapore last November.
Maria Sharapova is adamant that Williams remains as a fierce opponent, even so. Apparently, the Russian keeps track of William's performances and she knows when someone is vulnerable or not. According to Sharapova, it is hard to believe any claims regarding Serena Williams' vulnerability, when she is still considered as the world number one.
Sharapova further added that despite Williams' losses last year, she still managed to immerge victorious by the end of the season. For her, this definitely does not scream vulnerability in Williams' side.
Sharapova also aptly observed how Williams' managed to find her ground just as when the season is already ending. Despite the age of the 18-time Grand Slam champion, she still appears really strong and very powerful for Sharapova. Williams' experience on the tennis court is also one of her great leverages.
Thus far, everyone is itching to have these two tennis stars match against each other at the Brisbane International tournament. However, even Sharapova was surprised to know that Williams will not be playing for the WTA season at the Brisbane International and opted to represent the United States at the Hopman Cup instead. Nevertheless, according to Sharapova, she is happy that she's about to play again for the upcoming Australian Open, which is the first Grand Slam tournament of the 2015 season.
