As Supertyphoon Haiyan smashed the Philippines, many worldwide were worried with how it will affect the country and the Filipinos. Even other countries reach out to show concern and prayers.

Associated Press reported the typhoon is one of the most dangerous ever recorded in history with maximum sustained winds of 195 mph for landfall and 235 mph for its gusts.

Washington Post claimed some of the millions around the globe who showed concern were some groups from Washington who already organized several relief concerts to be held this weekend. Such groups have been consistent in organizing such activities and raise money to donate to the Red Cross who helps victims of every storm's aftermath.

For the recent earthquake that also struck the Philippines, the Asia America Initiative sent medicines and other supplies amounting to $600,000 as help to the earthquake victims, according to Bing Branigin, representative of the Philippine Red Cross in Northern Virginia.

Benefit Concerts For Typhoon Haiyan Victims

One benefit concert will be held in Alexandria at the Immanuel Church-on-the-Hill by 8 p.m., Friday. It is a $25 event whose proceeds will go straight to the Red Cross. Another is in Virginia Beach on Saturday, 6 p.m. with ticket prices ranging from $50 to $75. Its organizers are Naomi and Rey Estaris who own a travel agency.

NBC San Diego reported many gathered to pray for the Typhoon Haiyan victims at the St. Michael Catholic Church. Majority of the church attendees are Fil-Ams and those with relatives in the Philippines. They were also able to raise $4,000 for the victims of the recent Philippine earthquake and now they plan to raise more.
