The World of Warcraft: Cataclysm sold more than 3.3 million copies a day after it was released. This makes Cataclysm the fastest-selling PC game of all time, according to internal records of Blizzard Entertainment as well as its key distribution partners.

Cataclysm surpassed the previous record of more than 2.8 million copies sold in 24 hours, set in November 2008 by Blizzard's second World of Warcraft expansion, Wrath of the Lich King.

"We had to bring Azeroth to the brink of destruction in Cataclysm, but the result was our best expansion yet," said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment.

"We want to thank all of our new, existing, and returning players throughout the world for their incredible enthusiasm and support, and we look forward to hearing what they think about all the new content."

Cataclysm marks the return of the corrupted Dragon Aspect Deathwing the Destroyer, originally called Neltharion, the Earth-Warder. His sudden return from the heart of Deepholm tears through the dimensional barrier within Azeroth causing a sweeping cataclysm that reshapes much of surface of Azeroth.

In an effort to survive the planet-shattering cataclysm, two new playable races worgen and goblins, join the struggle between the Alliance and the Horde. Cataclysm players can begin their journey to the new level cap of 85, discover newly revealed locations, acquire new levels of power, and come face to face with Deathwing in a battle to determine the fate of the world.

World of Warcraft: Cataclysm is the third expansion set for the massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) World of Warcraft. It follows the expansion Wrath of the Lich King.
