TV viewers who love to stay up late had the chance to see the 3D footage from a camcorder. This is a world-first Australian free-to-air broadcast that happened at midnight.

A five-minute clip of scenic views was given by Panasoni Australia to broadcasters for 3D test transmissions. This is the first time that Australian homes were able to receive 3D content.

The test transmissions will last nine weeks.

Panasonic Australia product manager Mathew Alexander said that this was a breakthrough in television.

Alexander said, "There is no better test of this revolutionary technology than the first free-to-air 3D broadcast anywhere in the world."

The Panasoni AG-3DA1 HD 3D camcorder was used to capture the footage in Canada. The product was unveiled in the US last January and will be available in the Australian market in October 2010.
