Wozniak: Former Apple Exec Speaks His Mind On iPhones And Apple Watch
In a CNNMoney interview held in Capital One's new Innovation Center in Plano,Texas, Wozniak told that Apple could have performed better in competing with Samsung if they only started launching big screen iPhones in the past years. Samsung, with a global market share of 24 percent in the third quarter, is relatively higher compared to the 12 percent share of Apple according to tech consultancy IDC. The tech giant has immensely missed out against the giant Android smartphones until its September release of the much bigger iPhone 6.
Apple's iPhone 6 units are now hugely popular in all markets where the larger iPhones are recently released. So far, the Apple device is dominating pre-order sales beating Samsung's Galaxy Note 4 even in South Korea. Analysts expect the giant company to sell 10 iPhone models for every Galaxy Note 4 unit by the end of the year, BGR reports.
Apparently, Wozniak remains to be an Apple fan after he left the company in 1987. He also revealed that he likes to try out other gadgets. According to tech giant's co founder, tech is like a song that a person can get details from someone else but is unsure until that person hears the song for himself.
The former Apple executive known for his straightforward attitude also claimed his low excitement for the upcoming release of the Apple Watch. He even revealed that he is an early user of some of the smartwatches that he came across the market. But he quickly got rid of the wearables finding no absolute need for the devices with small screens.
Despite his negative take on smartwatches, he said that he is willing to give Apple Watch which he described as just a "luxury fitness band" a try. He said that Apple's upcoming wearable has the potential to sell well because it appears to be more distinctive versus its rivals.
Compared to Steve Jobs who was the salesman, Wozniak was the tinkerer. After a couple of decades since he left Apple and with all the changes in technology and in the market, Wozniak admitted that he is not sure if he still has a role to play in the tech industry.
