Maria Sharapova has extended her winning streak against Simona Halep after beating the Romanian in the fourth round of the 2015 WTA Finals. Sharapova scored straight-sets victory over Halep 6-4 6-4 at the Singapore Indoor Stadium on Tuesday evening.

The Russian tennis star now leads the Red Group with two wins after previously defeating Agnieszka Radwanska 4-6 6-3 6-4 in her first full match since the Wimbledon semifinals. Although Sharapova has a 5-0 head-to-head advantage over Halep prior the match, the Romanian had pushed her to three sets in their last three meetings and she admitted that their recent clash “got really tough.”

“I guess those are the moments you have to get through when you haven’t played in a long time and against No. 2 player in the world, these matches don’t come easy,” Sharapova revealed on WTATennis.com. “It definitely showed until the end.”

Sharapova is now 6-0 against Halep, who praised the Russian’s performance on Tuesday evening. Halep was impressed with Sharapova’s shots in the crucial parts of the match. She said that Sharapova was indeed a true champion because the former World No. 1 knew how to attack even if she was sidelined for the most part since Wimbledon. Despite the loss, Halep is still motivated to work harder.

Sharapova is eyeing for a semifinal berth when she plays reigning US Open champion Flavia Pennetta on Thursday. She lost to the eighth-ranked Italian in their last three meetings with their most recent encounter in the Round of 16 in Indian Wells.

Halep will play with Radwanska. Their head-to-head series tied at 4-4. The duo last played in the quarterfinals in Toronto.

Meanwhile, Angelique Kerber and Garbine Muguruza leads the White Group with one win apiece. Petra Kvitova and Lucie Safarova will play Wednesday with each player looking to win their first match at this year’s edition of WTA Finals. For more information, visit WTAFinals.com.
