WWE Announces Night Of Champions Full Lineup, Lesnar To Defend Title Versus Cena [VIDEO]
Wrestling fans, this is the night we look forward to, all year round, a night when all titles are put on the line, a night when the WWE pulls all the surprise appearances and a night when alliances are made and destroyed, the Night of Champions.
The annual pay-per-view event has produced the most memorable events in WWE history. In its maiden event, it unified the WWF and WCW into the Undisputed Championship. In 2001, it was memorable for the Stone Cold Steve Austin and Kurt Angle fight that saw Angle trying to one-up Austin by his trademark Stone Cold Stunner only to be on the receiving end of the same patented move.
2002 was not to be undone as the triple threat championship between The Rock, Kurt Angle and The Undertaker provided much of the theatrics and intrigue. The Rock won that match but the aftermath of him losing the title to Brock Lesnar and his eventual retirement from wrestling can be traced back to that night. The Hell in a Cell match between Batista and Triple H was not be outdone the following year as the World HeavyWeight Championship was snatched by Batista that year by using his Batista Bomb followed by the pinfall. The list goes on and this year's extravaganza is salivating on adding and topping those classics.
Take a look at the following line-up for the upcoming Night of Champions pay-per-view (PPV) on Sept. 21, 2014, at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee:
Dolph Ziggler and The Miz (Intercontinental Championship)
It is ironic that these tow fighters are contesting a belt which both of them proclaimed to have little significance. However, beggars cannot be choosers as any opportunity to be back in the spotlight will be a big new door for Ziggler and The Miz. Ziggler needs this belt more than the Miz as the latter have better rivalries that can be pressed upon but expect both fighters to go all out to get the belt nonetheless.
Sheamus vs Cesaro (United States Championship)
This belt is being passed on to what most fans say as lacklustre defenders. Sheamus snatched the belt from a maligned Dean Ambrose in Battle Royale in May by eliminating Ambrose himself. Now that Sheamus has been quite disappointing with his last showings in WWE many are hoping that Cesaro will again steal the belt once again. Thismight be the case as the King of Swing looks to rebound from the mess that was Wrestlemania XXX.
The USOS vs Stardust and Golddust (Tag Team Championship)
They say familiarity breeds contempt. With the USOs somewhat losing their lustre over some time now, the Dust Duo winning the Tag Team belts may not be out of the question. The WWE may have been little disappointing in unveiling the Rhodes brothers but this may be the perfect opportunity to bring them back up, setting up a new rivalry with the USOs and the other gigantic team out there (Mark Henry and Big Show).
Paige vs. AJ Lee vs. Nikki Bella (Divas championship)
The triple threat Divas match is one of the best recipes in the Night of Champions platter.Paige's young career has already earned her two Divas championships but that may not be enough to fend off both Aj Lee and Nikki Bella. Aj Lee has her fan favourite tag going for her and that may just propel her to reclaiming her belt from Paige. The bigger threat here is Nikki Bella. With the way Triple H has been promoting the fued between the twins Nikki and Brie it would be impossible if no interference from Brie would happen at some point. Maybe Nikki would be on the verge of winning it and Brie interferes but Paige comes to the rescue and forms an alliance with her, but who knows with these wild girls?
Brock Lesnar vs John Cena (WWE World Heavyweight Championship)
The last match of the night is the most predictable. Given that Lesnar just signed a new contract with the outfit, it would be a riot if he loses out his newly minted belt from the "former" face of WWE. It would just be logical to place the belt around Lesnar's waist until Wrestlemania XXX when he will be pitting his championship to the Royal Rumble winner. That could either be Roman Reigns, Cesaro or any new name that will create a new following in the wrestling world.
For now we count the days until we hear those rock and roll intros complete with fireworks and heavy metal music.
