WWE Extreme Rules Main Event revealed; Fatal 5-Way will unleash ‘The Beast’
WWE general manager Kurt Angle made a startling announcement, revealing the main event card for WWE Extreme Rules set for June 4, 2017. It will be a Fatal 5-Way match, which will see some of the red brand’s top stars slugging it out for the right to meet Universal champion, Brock Lesnar.
The names revealed by Angle for WWE Extreme Rules hardly come as a surprise. Those named were Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, Bray Wyatt, Samoa Joe and Finn Balor. The mix is star-power-packed, so it will be interesting who gets the first crack at the “Beast Incarnate” in next month’s pay-per-view.
No Braun Strowman?
Braun Strowman could have easily been in the mix, but the “Monster Among Men” will reportedly be out for six months after undergoing elbow surgery, according to the Bleacher Report. This means that the earliest the “Monster Among Men” can be seen would be around November. If so, it is possible that Strowman could make a run for the title at the WWE Royal Rumble 2018. It also douses any hope that he would crash the Fatal 5-Way match at WWE Extreme Rules.
Hence, changes have been made to the original plan. There was previous word that Strowman would face Lesnar, making a run for the WWE Universal title. Apparently, the layoff has changed the script, making the five-man match an interesting event to see. But who exactly has the edge?
Rollins and Wyatt seem to have something brewing. Joe is the third party in the mix. As seen on the May 15 edition of WWE Raw, Rollins and Wyatt went at it. Joe even stuck his nose in the match. In the end, it was Wyatt standing tall. Could it be the same scenario on WWE Extreme Rules?
Balor and Reigns also have something developing so the two could be going at it for the next couple of months. The “Big Dog” did score a win over Balor and the “Demon King” is expected to want a rematch soon.
Reigns a favorite but too soon
From the five combatants, it seems Roman Reigns would be the obvious favorite. However, a collision with Brock Lesnar is something best saved for bigger pay-per-views. It could be the main attraction for WWE SummerSlam though there is no indication that Lesnar will be dropping the title until perhaps Wrestlemania 34.
Someone aside from Reigns could get the push like Rollins or Balor. Along with that comes the co-stars in the storyline so it will be a rowdy scenario in the following months.
