As expected John Cena retained his number one contender status by defeating top heel Seth Rollins during the Tables, Ladders and Chairs (TLC) pay-per-view event Sunday evening. His victory virtually assures a third and possibly final match against current WWE heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar at the Royal Rumble event in Philadelphia next year, which was confirmed by Fansided.

While the win by Cena was kind of expected in the wrestling community, it did not come without colour. Cena had the win all wrapped up but no referee was conscious enough to grant the official victory. When the referees were there, they could not decide who among Rollins or Cena had the clear grasp when both went down in the tables. The men in stripes did what would Vince do, and restarted the match. At the tail end of the main event, Big Show interfered to supposedly gift wrap the win to fellow heel Rollins but an unexpected appearance of a supposed days-away Roman Reigns one-upped his former Shield brother by assisting Cena for the right to challenge "The Beast Incarnate" at Royal Rumble.

The 30-man rumble is supposed to be a precursor to the year's main event at Wrestlemania 31. There have been no clear-cut matches for Wrestlemania, yet many are already looking forward to the rise of Reigns during the annual event. The musings of Lesnar taking his act to the mixed martial arts scene has only solidified the talks that the current heavyweight champion is on his way up.

Once his contract is up, a bidding war will begin for his services between the WWE, UFC and Bellator -- outfits which all expressed interest in getting the services of the behemoth. Another indicator that supports a WWE exit is that the company has reportedly halted production of Lesnar merchandise and ordered a bigger bulk for Sheamus merchandise, instead. Nevertheless, there are still some UFC personalities that believe that Lesnar will stay in the wrestling world given his health conditions like Alistair Overeem, the man who gave the current champion his last defeat inside the Octagon.

"I don't think Brock Lesnar is coming back for a number of reasons. One of them is that he'll get his a** kicked, and he doesn't like that. So I think he's going to stay right where he is, in WWE," Overeem told MMA Fighting.
