'WWE: Then. Now. Forever.' comic book line release date announced; creators unveil Mora, The Undertaker, John Cena artwork at Comic-Con
The comic books are set for release in November
BOOM! Studios recently gave wrestling fans a preview of its upcoming comic book franchise which is to be based on the WWE universe. The comic books are set for release in November.
IGN reveals a look behind the production of the comic book franchise. There, it shows the promising team behind the project, which include BOOM! Studios president of publishing and marketing Filip Sablik, managing editor Bryce Carlson, editor Eric Harburn, artist Dan Mora and head writer Eric Prowell.
What is even more interesting is that the whole team appears to be crazy about wrestling -- all of them even admitting that they have loved the sport their whole lives. It is also revealed that comic book writing has parallel processes with professional wrestling which also include storytelling and character building.
Various samples of their artwork were also debuted, featuring some of WWE’s most iconic characters like John Cena, The Underaker, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Triple H and many more. The piece that got the most attention that night featured Mora, portrayed by Sasha Banks. The featured artwork can be seen in a post on Inside Pulse.
In describing how different this upcoming comic book series will be from past wrestling comics, Carlson says that it will be based on the actual world of WWE. This is in contrast to the usual comic versions where wrestlers are placed in superhero suits to save the world.
“There will be ring action; backstarge stuff,” adds Carlson.
He also noted that the comic will be quite similar to the WWE 24 show which features behind-the-scenes footage and deeper looks into some of the wrestler’s lives. This could just be the addition to the WWE universe that fans, regardless of age, have been waiting for.
The series will debut in November 2016 with a 40-page standalone issue. The first comic book will take its readers to a deeper look into the lives of the former members of The Shield. The team also promises to deliver classic matches that could include Undertaker versus Sting and Steve Austin versus Goldberg.
