WWE Update: CM Punk Chants Could Trigger AJ Lee Firing [VIDEO]

These days, whenever the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) rolls out its show in Chicago, it is just usual to hear the chants of fans of "CM Punk" whenever AJ Lee takes the ring. These fans may mean no harm to Lee, but apparently it has taken its toll and is actually a threat to the livelihood of the current Divas champion.

It is no secret that AJ Lee is the last connection of Punk to the WWE world, and as his wife, the tension between Lee and her employers is brewing, given the current legal battle between CM Punk and Vince McMahon and the WWE. Punk unceremoniously left the outfit in January over disagreements on how his character was being developed. The outfit fired back by pulling all his merchandise from online WWE stores, and the latest in the saga is that Punk and his representatives are demanding royalties from the inclusion of the wrestler in roster of playable characters in WWE 2K15. Things got so bad that the WWE has ordered fans to put down and ban CM Punk signs during matches.

The Inquisitr, a wrestling news site, was the first to report unrest between Lee and WWE's camp. In its article, it theorises that "they create a tense situation for AJ Lee with her employer. After all, CM Punk walked out on his contract because he basically wanted to book himself."

WWE, for its part, has been flip-flopping on its comments from its prodigal son. Just a few days back, Stephanie McMahon said on WGN Morning News that the Straight Edge Arrow was an "incredible character" and that they did not know what the future holds, essentially not shutting the door on his return.

AJ Lee, the diva who took the championship from Paige and Nikki Bella at Night of Champions, is also one of the prized talents of the wrestling world. With the Bella sisters wearing out their welcome and looking lackadaisical in the acting department, Lee is safe for now, but it is only a matter of time until new faces emerge, one of which is NXT prospect Charlotte. In the meantime, Lee's spot at the top is safe as shown by followers such as Ciaran.
