Wyclef Jean is thinking about running for president in his devastated homeland Haiti, his charitable foundation said. The former Fugees member has been involved in giving aid to the Haitians left homeless by the massive earthquake in January and his Yele Haiti organization has put up temporary shelters.

Because of his dedication and service, people have encouraged him to step into politics. He initially refused the idea, saying: "If I take a job being a president, I can't do as much as I'm doing for my country."

However, CNN reports that he has filled out the relevant paperwork in case he decided to become a presidential candidate in the 2010 elections, saying in a telephone interview that he "can't sing forever".

In the meantime, his foundation has released a statement about the issue, saying the star still has to come to a decision.

According to the statement, "Wyclef's commitment to his homeland and its youth is boundless, and he will remain its greatest supporter regardless of whether he is part of the government moving forward. At this time, Wyclef Jean has not announced his intent to run for Haitian president. If and when a decision is made, media will be alerted immediately."
