Samantha Jade was announced Tuesday night as the grand winner of the reality-based competition X Factor Australia 2012.

Jade, 25, from Western Australia, was mentored by Guy Sebastian. She is the first female grand winner of X Factor down under. She won a recording contract and a car.

"I'm so overwhelmed! I am so delighted to be here and never thought I would win. I've had the most amazing experience on the X Factor and loved every minute of it," Jade said.

Jason Owen, the runner-up, also won a car. The Collective, which is seen as the Aussies' One Direction type, placed third after the public votes were cast.

Jade's victory on X Factory is hardly ever surprising. She has landed on the voting results' bottom spots in the past, but she continued to improve on the show. She honed her vocals and leveled up her stage presence through each week. Most important, she does sound radio-friendly. In fact, her cover of Kanye West's "Heartless" made it to the top of iTunes songs chart a week before the finale.
