‘X Factor Australia’ 2016 latest news: Guy Sebastian blames show’s poor ratings to ‘brutally short’ season, bad chemistry; calls Iggy Azalea ‘weirdo’
A week after “X Factor Australia” wrapped up its 2016 edition with Isaiah Firebrace as the winner, judge and mentor Guy Sebastian shared his opinion about this year’s competition.
Followers of the reality show have heavily criticised “X Factor Australia” 2016, with some even calling it the worst season yet. Some also questioned the early exits of favourites such as Natalie Ong, AYA and Chynna Taylor. The numbers definitely displayed the fans’ lukewarm response – the finale attracted only 751,000 viewers across the five capital cities, according to Herald Sun. This is a huge drop compared to the previous year’s grand finals, which registered 1.2 million viewers.
“Australian Idol” winner Guy offered his thoughts why “X Factor Australia” 2016 had a dismal performance. “I think there was a lot against us,” he told Herald Sun. “(The season) was brutally short. We said goodbye to four people in one episode. I mean, come on. And it wasn’t the right chemistry on the panel.”
Guy didn’t exactly conceal his displeasure while sitting beside Iggy at the judge’s panel. There had been quite a number of times throughout the season when tension between the two was quite apparent. In one episode, he seemed to have blame Iggy for Chynna’s shocking elimination. Guy criticised his co-judges for going into a deadlock. “This is stupid,” Guy said. “She’s the best singer here, and she shouldn’t be leaving.” It appeared that Guy’s zooming in on Iggy since she voted for Beatz. As expected, Mel B rallied behind her rep Beatz, while Adam voted for Chynna.

This is Iggy’s first year in the panel, as well as Adam’s. Unlike Iggy, Adam has received positive feedback from fans, who clamour for his return in “X Factor Australia.” [READ: "After Isaiah Firebrace’s big win, fans want Adam Lambert to return next season"]
Adam may not have another chance to come back, however, as reports have surfaced that there won’t be another season for the singing competition. Should the show air again next year, Guy had some pieces of advice to offer. “It’s time to evolve the show,” he said. “People aren’t stupid. They know manufactured television, and they know when something has run its course and people are clutching at straws.”
His comments about this year's competition and judges seem to contradict his Instagam post last week. He shared a photo of himself with the other three judges and captioned it, "What a fun chapter! To be able to mentor and guide some genuinely great people toward their musical goals was an honour. This show changed a lot of lives and I'm proud of what was achieved. Another year done and now back to recording releasing and touring amongst many other things. Thanks to everyone who made it possible."
Guy, who’s out promoting his “Part 1” EP including his single “Set in Stone,” has been an “X Factor Australia” judge and mentor in 2010, 2011, 2015 and 2016. This year, his singer Davey Foder ended as runner-up.
