“The X Factor Australia” said goodbye to another contestant on Tuesday night. Ofisa Toleafoa, or otherwise known as Tee, was eliminated after being thrust into the Bottom 3 with Caitlyn Shadbolt and Jason Heerah. Also, American Authors and Australia’s very own Ricki-Lee Coulter took the stage.

Opening the show were the Top 7 with the American Authors, singing “Best Day of My Life.” Later on, the U.S. indie rockers came back to perform “Believe.”

Second guest performer for the night was “Australian Idol” finalist Ricki-Lee, who brought a whole choir with her on stage for a rousing performance of her single “Happy Ever After.”

Top 7 and the Bottom 3

There were only seven acts remaining, and, for the first and only time in the show, there were three acts that were in the Bottom.

Brothers 3, Marlisa Punzalan, Dean Ray and Reigan Derry were all announced safe, unfortunately leaving Tee, Caitlyn and Jason in the Bottom 3.

All three have been in the Bottom 2 before, but they have never been pitted against one another. Tee was up against XOX in Week 4, Jason successfully beat Sydnee Carter in Week 5, and Caitlyn beat Rochelle Pitt just last week.

As for their live performance on Sunday, only Jason was given a standing ovation by all the judges – Ronan Keating, Dannii Minogue, Natalie Bassingthwaighte and Redfoo. Their assessment was unanimously positive, all saying that the drummer/singer was amazing and phenomenal.

Caitlyn and Tee, on the other hand, got mixed reviews from the judges. Dannii had constructive criticisms for both the acts.

At the Sing-Off, Caitlyn sang Carrie Underwood’s “Temporary Home,” Jason performed Stevie Wonder’s version of “We Can Work It Out,” and Tee took on Joe Cocker’s “You Are So Beautiful,” even incorporating his mentor Natalie’s name in the song.

Ronan “obviously isn’t sending Caitlyn home” as she is under his tutelage, so he sent home Tee, based on his performance. Natalie also backed her own act, Tee, and therefore only had to choose between Jason and Caitlyn. She chose to send home Caitlyn, saying that Jason is a more consistent performer.

With Dannii the only judge who did not have any act in the Bottom 3, she could be expected to vote out an act without bias. But without giving any reason, she voted off Caitlyn.

Redfoo also obviously wasn’t sending his own act, Jason, home. He chose Tee to go, but whether he really wanted to send him home or he just wanted to send the votes to deadlock remains unclear.

Jason was automatically saved after the judges opted to vote for the others, but with two votes each, Tee and Caitlyn had to rely on the earlier public votes to see who was getting eliminated. Tee acquired fewer votes than Caitlyn, which therefore means that it was his time to go.

On Sunday, the theme will be Aussie Week, which will see the remaining six acts going local.
