“The X Factor Australia” continued with its live shows on Sunday with the Top 10 contestants singing Top 10 Hits.

First to take the stage was Tee, whose real name is Ofisa Toleafoa. Carrying a glittered red microphone, the 24-year-old Kiwi opened the show with Lloyd’s “Dedication to My Ex (Miss That).” The judges called him a “reliable” performer who constantly nails his performances.

Ronan Keating gave him an advice, though. He said if there’s one criticism he could give the younger singer, it’s to watch his timing.

On a side note, did Tee just utter “s---“ while singing the song? The word is part of the lyrics, but one would think that they would change it a bit for the live shows since it’s a family friendly program.

Single mum of four Rochelle Pitt once again earned praises. This week, she sang Tina Turner’s “Proud Mary.” It was a smashing hit for the judges and the audiences alike.

“Once again, you have astounded me,” Ronan applauded the “miva” (mum diva).

Dannii Minogue commended how Rochelle’s vocal never faltered throughout her performance, while Rochelle’s mentor Redfoo believed that Tina Turner would be proud of her for giving her song the treatment it deserves.

The youngest contestant Marlisa Punzalan, 14, got mixed reviews with “It’s Oh so Quiet.” It was perhaps such a nice vocal exercise for the schoolgirl, although not all judges were in awe of the song choice.

Natalie Bassingthewaighte commented that it’s not the greatest song choice for her, which was her mentor Ronan’s fault. However, she also advised Marlisa to make her performance “a bit more pop and less bravado.”

Dannii observed that Marlisa’s vocals faltered in some notes and her “end position” needed work, which got her mentor Ronan shaking his head. Foo doused the building tension by saying he loved Marlisa’s performance.

Reigan Derry’s mentor, Redfoo took the viewers’ advice of “more Reigan, less distraction,” noting that they might have been right about the over-the-top productions that he had put the former “Australian Idol” finalist on stage every week.

So for the week, she tackled Sam Smith’s “Stay with Me” on a bare stage. It was only her and a piano. Ronan, who wasn’t as impressed with Reigan with her earlier performances as the other judges, gave her a standing ovation at the end, saying it was simply “incredible.”

“That was my favourite “X Factor’ performance of all time, like ever!” Natalie praised the songstress.

Country siblings Brothers 3 did what they do best, which is to harmonise a song. The NSW three-member band took the disco song, Avicii’s “Hey Brother,” and made it their own. Ronan said that they were so entertaining that they should have their own reality show.

Dean Ray received another standing ovation from the judges after singing “Mr Brightside” by The Killers.

“I love the vocals. Sometimes the performance takes it away, but I love it,” Dannii told him.

“You’re a piece of work, I love yah,” Ronan said, adding that he looks forward to his every performance.

Sydnee Carter, who was at the Bottom Two last week, got a second chance to perform live on Sunday. With a bit of a hair makeover, the 16-year-old singer took on “Say Something” and earned standing ovation from the judges.

Dannii loved Ronan’s song choice for Sydnee, although she added that Sydnee needed a bit more energy when she performs.

Jason Heerah had his drums back while performing “Higher Ground,” which is originally by Stevie Wonder. Ronan liked his performance so much that he told him he wants him in his band if he ever he didn’t win ‘X Factor.’

“He might have to sing lead vocals, though,” Redfoo told the Boyzone lead singer.

XOX was bombarded with criticisms last week, with only their mentor Dannii defending them from the other judges’ harsh comments. For this week, the girls nailed it with Iggy Azalea and Ariana Grande’s “Problem.”

“I’m glad Foo and I gave you that hard time on the show last week because you needed it,” Ronan said, to which Natalie countered, “The reason why you’re good is because you’ve got Dannii as a mentor and you’re working your butts off.”

Country singer Caitlyn Shadbol took on Taylor Swift’s single “Shake it Off,” which was the Grammy winner’s departure from country pop music. The judges commended her taking a risk out of her comfort zone.

Although Caitlyn has never done choreography before, it suited her, according to Dannii, because it actually stopped the 18-year-old Queenslander from doing the same “weird jiggling” that she does all the time.
