“The X Factor Australia” contestants took on the Latest and Greatest on Sunday night, but not everyone delivered top notch performance.

The Top 9 contestants sang some of the biggest songs today. And while most of them got positive feedbacks, there were a few who were not up to their usual standard.

Marlisa Punzalan was the first to perform, and mentor Ronan Keating gave her a song that was highly requested by the viewers and even by his own kids. Singing the mega hit “Let It Go” from the movie “Frozen,” the 14-year-old schoolgirl took on Demi Lovato’s pop version rather than the more popular Idina Menzel film version.

Dannii Minogue loved Marlisa’s own take on the song more than the original; however, she still wanted the young singer to express her feelings more during performances.

Next was Dannii’s only remaining act, Brothers 3, who sang Bastille’s “Pompeii.” For the first time, the trio got mixed reviews from the judges.

Redfoo thought it was good but not amazing because there was no moment that stood out from the rest.

“It was good; the vocals sounded good, but just make sure you add a moment or add a part that brings it home,” the “New Thang” singer advised the young brothers.

Ronan agreed, adding that Brothers 3 shouldn’t lose their charm. However, Natalie Bassingthwaighte thought their charm comes from their journey and how they evolve every week, while Dannii said that Ronan was one to speak up about charm when his own first performance on TV was not as streamlined as his performances now.

Bottom two survivor Ofisa Toleafoa, or simply known as Tee, almost went home last week, so her mentor Natalie belatedly realised that she should not have given her Drake’s song, “Hold On, We’re Going Home.”

Foo said that while Tee was great as always, there was “something off” about his performance, adding that Tee needed songs that showcase his big and soulful vocals. And as usual, Natalie and Dannii disagreed with Foo.

Sydnee Carter wowed the judges with her performance of London Grammar’s “Strong,” but Foo once again thought that “she could go more emotional” during her performances. Dannii countered him yet again, telling him that Sydnee is only 16 and that’s just her style.

“Telling her to go more emotional is no big deal. I thought it was great,” Foo insisted.

Soul mama Rochelle Pitt had a very rough start singing Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep.” It appeared she had forgotten her lyrics. It was a painful thing to watch because viewers knew that she could have done a lot better than that. She was able to pull through at the last minute, though, and her mentor Foo stood up to give her support.

The judges were understanding as well, and Dannii complimented her looks. As Foo said, every singer has messed up their lyrics at one time.

Jason Heerah already lured a massive fan in Redfoo’s dad, Berry Gordy, Jr, the founder of Motown record label. However, according to Ronan, Jason’s rendition of Usher’s “She Came to Give It to You” wasn’t his best.

Dannii didn’t agree with Ronan, but she acknowledged that Jason didn’t captivate the audiences as he had before.

Dean Ray got a standing ovation from the judges after singing George Ezra’s “Budapest.” It was unlike his usual rock n’ roll style, but it was still a hit, with the judges calling his performance the perfect song to listen to while they are just “cruising.”

Country singer Caitlyn Shadbolt gave Lady Gaga’s “You and I” a country-pop vibe. Natalie was surprised that it was a Lady Gaga song, while Redfoo said it was her best performance so far, calling it “country swag.”

Reigan Derry once again had a standing ovation from the judges after performing “Bang Bang” by Jessie J, Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj. It was another over-the-top production, which Foo was advised by viewers not to do anymore, but it was still nonetheless captivating.

“That’s the best performance I’ve seen in five years of this show!” Ronan said.

On Monday, another act will be going home as Ariana Grande and Hilary Duff take “The X Factor Australia” stage.
