The “X Factor” New Zealand has announced its top five after Gap5 has been eliminated. After singing a cover of Bruno Mars’ “Locked Out of Heaven,” the girls of the group were sent home by the judges on Monday night.

Gap5 and fellow contestant Cassie Henderson received the lowest scores at Sunday’s Performance Show, prompting them to appeal to the judges with another performance.

And while Cassie, 14, successfully pleaded for her survival with her rendition of Miley Cyrus’ “The Climb,” the Gap5 girls were not. While Gap5’s mentor Melanie Blatt stuck with her girls, fellow judges Daniel Bedingfield, Ruby Frost, and Stan Walker chose to end the group’s run on the X Factor stage.

“I’m going to use my contacts to help these girls because I truly believe they have what it takes to be an international act,” Blatt promised.

The group’s elimination meant there are only five performers left in the show. Cassie has joined Benny Tipene Whnua Patuwai, Jackie Thomas, and Moorhouse in the top five.

There are no hard feelings between Gap5 and Cassie, though.

“We couldn’t have gone up against a more amazing artist, and we love Cassie to bits,” Gap5 (Alex Foster, Hannah-Jane Thorne, Taiva Ioane, Nicole Hedder, and Nica Israel) said of their younger counterpart. “We couldn’t have gone out on a better note and are blessed to have had this experience.”

The top 5 to sing for their survival again on Sunday for the live elimination show the next day.
