'The X Factor USA' 2013: Is Simon Cowell Turning to One Direction to Pump Up Ratings? Band Set to Perform Live on Fox Show [VIDEO]
Simon Cowell leaked news that One Direction will be performing on “The X Factor USA” 2013. This raised speculations that the British mogul is turning to his pet boy band in the hopes of pumping up ratings of the Fox’s reality competition show.
Speaking to Hitflix, Simon confirmed that the English-Irish band agreed to appear on “The X Factor USA.” His declaration sounded loaded, however, as he insisted that One Direction will just “perform” on the show, nothing else.
"They're coming in to perform I think on the third or fourth live show, but that's the only role they'll play," Simon said.
Knowing the trouble “The X Factor USA” is facing at the start of the new season, it was suggested that One Direction be tapped to help the show get more buzz this season. "TXFU" is on its third season. The soon-to-be-dad, however, “played down” any advice to maximise 1D fanbase to benefit his show.
"They're all One Direction fans and I don't like the idea of databasing and all that kind of stuff, because I like people to make their own mind up," SiCo added, noted Mirror UK.
It is an open secret that Simon plays a big role for the creation of One Direction on the UK edition of "The X Factor.” The British mogul suggested that the group be formed. Though Harry Styles gave the name of the group, it was Simon’s idea that each teen members who auditioned as individuals at that time be organized as a group and the brilliant idea made 1D one of the most successful boy bands today. Billboard’s 21 Under 21 even listed One Direction as the No. 1 “Most Powerful Young Artists” today, beating out Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus.
SiCo, however, leaves it up to the group to pay forward (should they wish). After all, as SiCo noted, the group knows what he’s been up to and the show he has been holding on to.
Simon said in the interview with Hitflix that he has constant communications with One Direction through the social networking site Twitter and the boy band is well aware of what’s going on on the show.
"I communicate with them through Twitter and stuff like that. They know what we're doing, but it's always their choice," he said.
“The X Factor USA” premiered from Sept 11 to 12, 2013 and the show, despite the great changes, has been losing its audience. It premiered with barely 6.5 million audience, followed by an even lower ratings with 6 million audience on its second week.
The show’s insiders claim that they have great formula this season, but they only need to get people watching. Critics asked if “The X Factor USA” is, indeed, in bad shape that there were rumours circulating SiCo is already in talks for a new judge, for next season.
Scroll down and watch One Direction’s “Forever Young,” the group’s hit song that would have been released if they won “The X Factor UK” in 2011. They landed Top 3.
