‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ Casting Update: Main Villain To Be Played By ‘Star Wars: Force Awakens’ Actor
The producers of "X-Men: Apocalypse" have finally found the actor who would portray the role of the main villain in the movie. Joining the cast to play the titular character and the darkest villain is "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" actor Oscar Isaac.
Variety broke the news on Thursday, Nov. 24. The report notes that the actor, who is set to play an unspecified role in the seventh instalment of the epic sci-fi film "Star Wars," has signed the deal with 20th Century Fox.
Bryan Singer returns as the director alongside screenwriter Simon Kinberg for the highly anticipated Marvel movie. In October, speaking about the iconic villain Apocalypse, Simon Kinberg told NY Daily News that "the level of his power and his threat is larger than anything we've seen in an 'X-Men' movie so far." Meanwhile, fans know that the upcoming sequel is set in the year 1980s.
Furthermore, Singer promised that the movie will feature "mass destruction" unlike any other "X-Men" film to date. The director dropped the big spoilers in an interview with Total Film via Variety.
Fans got their first glimpse of "X-Men: Apocalypse" in the post-credit scene of "Days of Future Past" that featured ancient Egypt and the pyramids. Fans even got a glimpse of the young Apocalypse, known as En Sabah Nur, displaying his powers to the huge crowd gathered around him. In the comics, Apocalypse was born 5000 years ago and was raised by a nomad. He has four horsemen, named War, Famine, Pestilence and Death.
Just two days ago, reports surfaced that the "Thor" actor Idris Elba is being considered for the role. Prior to that, reports suggested that Tom Hardy is in the running to play the titular villain. Obviously, that didn't work out.
For those unfamiliar, Oscar Isaac, 35, is an American actor born in Guatemala. He kickstarted his career with a film called "The Nativity Story." The actor is best known for his work in 2013's "Inside Llewyn Davis." The film was widely appreciated and won several awards including Grand Prix award at Cannes Film Festival.
Besides Oscar Isaac, "X-Men: Apocalypse" stars Nicholas Hoult, Jennifer Lawrence, Hugh Jackman, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy and more. The film is scheduled to be released on May 27, 2016.
