"X-Men: Apocalypse" premieres on May 27, 2016. Ahead of its much-anticipated release, fans may be glad to know that the movie may bring back two of its iconic characters, Jean Gray and Cyclops.

Deadline offers a brief glimpse into the plot details of the movie. "X-Men: Apocalypse" reportedly takes place ten years after "Days of Future Past." As viewed in the 2014 movie, time travel was clearly the theme in the story. This altering of time will bring in a new powerful villain, which reports have so far identified to be another mutant, "Apocalypse." Likewise, the site claimed it will also bring back previous characters Jean Gray and Cyclops. However, they would have to be featured as their younger selves.

Bryan Singer, who has confirmed he will be directing the movie, further expounded on this report. In an interview with Yahoo! Movies, "X-Men" producer Simon Kinberg quizzed the director on the production of "X-Men: Apocalypse."

Singer claimed if the movie were to bring back Cyclops and Jean Grey, then the characters would have to be recast. Since "Apocalypse" is set in the past, younger stars would have to portray the characters. "Apocalypse takes place twenty years before the first X-Men film, if a character such as Storm - or, for that matter, James Marsden's Cyclops or Famke Jannsen's Jean Grey - were to appear in the next film, they'd likely have to be replaced by younger actors," Bryan Singer said.

Additionally, Bryan Singer claimed that the idea would somehow pose a problem in terms of bringing life to the characters. The director told Simon Kinberg that it "would be a tall task" to look for younger counterparts who can portray Cyclops and Jean Gray. Famke Jannsen and James Marsden have somehow already identified themselves with the characters that it would be hard to replace them.

However, it's still uncertain if a recast would happen. Bryan Singer was vague on his statement on whether Jean Gray and Cyclops would again be featured in the movie. "If some of those characters were in the movie we would, but we'll see," he said.

One thing's for certain though as revealed by Bryan Singer. Ian McKellen (Magneto) and Patrick Stewart (Professor Xavier), along with their younger counterparts Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy, will be reprising their roles in "X-Men: Apocalypse."
