Xbox Games with Gold February 2016, new Community Calendar app goes live for Xbox One
February is more than just the love month. It also brings free games and a couple of new features for the Xbox One.
As per usual, since it’s the start of February, Xbox Live Gold members can get some free games for both the Xbox One and the Xbox 360. For Xbox One players, this could really mean four new games for the Xbox One, all thanks to the backward compatibility feature, Major Nelson confirmed over his official blog.
Starting Feb. 1 until the end of the month, the Xbox One will get “Half of Fate,” which mixes cards, with brawls and even RPG elements. It makes use of leveling up the characters so that players can go against the dealer again. From Feb. 16 to March 15, “Styx: Master of Shadows,” which makes use of unique puzzles, compelling narrative and strategic use of abilities.
Coming in at the start of February is brawler title “Sacred Citadel” for the Xbox 360. Later in the month, from Feb. 16 to 29, much acclaimed “Gears of War 2” will be available for free.
Apart from the new games, Microsoft is also delivering a new app called the Community Calendar app. This is a great way for Xbox Live members to get in on events, livestreams, tournaments and other happenings in the community. What’s great about the app is that it has already been under testing since October.
Over at the Xbox Wire, the company has given a few highlight features for the Community Calendar app that make it worth grabbing. Firstly, it features Community Spotlights, which give Xbox Live members easy access to community managers and other members who are making waves in the community.
Games with Fames gives fans a way to join, play and chat with celebrities and other personalities in the industry, while Gatherings are streams made specifically for the Xbox Live community. As mentioned, there are also livestreams and tournaments, the latter of which features major eSports. For upcoming things, Game Launches is a section that allows players a quick glance of what game will be releasing on what date, while Challenges & Contests feature some competitions where fans can get free stuff.
Currently, the release of the Community Calendar app is still limited. Luckily, Australia and New Zealand are among the few countries that can enjoy the app today, alongside the likes of the U.S., U.K., Greece, Ireland, Hong Kong, Singapore, South Africa and United Arab Emirates, among others.
