Intel Corp. finally decided to enter the smartphone market through their newest smartphone product called the Xolo X900. The Xolo X900 is the product of the collaboration between Intel and Lava International Ltd., a mobile device maker. The Xolo X900 will be available in India this week.

Intel, the popular chip maker and Lava Internal first revealed the product of their collaboration during the 2012 Mobile World Congress. The launch of this smartphone is considered as a "big breakthrough" for Intel since the company already had previous attempts to enter the smartphone world. Though Intel already had a lot of previous attempts, none of its efforts before were successful.

One of the highlights of this smartphone is its processor which is an Intel smartphone reference design. The Xolo X900 has 1.6GHz Intel Atom processor with Intel Hyper threading technology. It also has dimensions of 123 x 63 x 10.99, 4-inch capacitive touchscreen display with 1024 x 600 pixel resolution display, and 400MHz Graphics Clock with dual channel memory with 3D Gaming experience.

Other specifications of the Xolo X900 are as follows:

  • 1 GB RAM
  • Android v.2.3 but will be upgraded to Android 4.0 or Android ICS
  • Rear camera (8MP with flash, full HD video recording, and fast shooting Burst Mode)
  • Front camera with 1.3MP
  • 16GB Internal Storage
  • HSPA+ network support
  • HDMI output 1.3a - connect to HDTV
  • NFC (Near Field Communication) support
  • High speed 3G HSPA+ , up to 21 Mbps
  • Bluetooth
  • Wireless LAN WiFi
  • microUSB
  • Battery life estimated for 8 hours

Intel has no designs for a top position in the smartphone market right away but the company acknowledges that they would need time and space in order to make their mark in the smartphone market. Paul Otellini, the CEO for Intel also expressed the same sentiment stating that "it may take time to establish a meaningful presence but said the smartphone market is big enough for Intel to find a place in it".

The Xolo X900 is will be launch in India this week with a selling price of around Rs. 25,000. There is no word yet from Intel if the smartphone would be available in Australia or its probable selling price.
