‘Yooka-Laylee’ release date: Another game joins the Switch roster soon

“Yooka-Laylee” will be released sometime in early April. Many players who have pledged money on Kickstarter are waiting for its arrival.

A two-hour sample of the game was allowed to be played by some people on March 6 as developer of the game Playtonic took part in the Game Developers Conference. The first two worlds of the game were exhibited and a lot of people were able to witness the gameplay. [See video below.]

There has been a lot of great reviews for those who were able to play the game. The game has received positive notes from IGN, Forbes and other gaming sites. There are also many fans looking for the release of this game especially for the Switch version as it can be taken anywhere. It is still not yet available on the Nintendo store, but Nintendo is in partnership with Playtonic.

Gameplay

According to the press release, there are going to be five worlds included in the game. These worlds will be expandable to offer bigger and more challenging gameplay. In each of the worlds, there will also be a secret arcade game. It will feature old-school games. However, it is unknown what these games will be.

Players of the upcoming game will be able to explore different worlds with Yooka, a green character that resembles a chameleon, and Laylee, a purple bat that has a big nose. These two will help players collect a vault-load of shiny collectibles. With the duo coming to the Nintendo Switch soon, the game will also offer a multiplayer functionality.

Wii U version and physical Switch edition

“Yooka-Laylee” is a Kickstarter project that started in 2015. It gave a colourful 3D platform that captured the look and feel of the N64 games. Its original version was supposed to be available for the Wii U. However, it has since been cancelled. Furthermore, there is no possibility of a physical Switch edition as the developers of the game say it is beyond their scope, according to Destructoid. The developers mentioned back in December that the costs of physical format of the game is much greater than the digital version.

Release date and pricing

“Yooka-Laylee” will be released on April 11 on different consoles. It is available for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Switch and PC. As of the time of writing, there is no price yet available for the Switch console. However, the game is available for pre-order on GameStop for the PS4 console. This game is priced at US$39.99 (AU$50).
