CBS offered soap opera fans a treat last Friday when “The Young and the Restless” had a crossover episode with “The Bold and the Beautiful.” Eric Forrester (John McCook) visited Genoa City to visit his old flame Lauren (Tracey Bregman) and come to her rescue.

On the Jan. 27 episode, Eric arrived at Top of the Tower and met with Lauren, who called him for a business deal. They flashed back to their unforgettable moments together and exchanged updates about their respective lives, including his recent marriage. Later, Lauren informed Jack (Peter Bergman) that she won’t sign his proposal because she got a better offer. Eric then entered, announcing that Fenmore will do much better if it merges with Forrester Creations.

Refusing to give up, Jack upped his bid significantly, which Lauren accepted. Before leaving Jack’s office with Eric, Lauren warned Jack never to underestimate her again. Once alone, Lauren and Eric celebrated their triumph, and she thanked him for helping her save her company. He said he was happy to do it, and to call when Jack gives her any more trouble.

Followers of both daytime TV series welcomed seeing characters from their favourite shows together and took to Facebook to express their glee. One fan, named Judy Infausto, wrote, “Nice to see Eric on the show today… seems they scammed Jack… lol.” Another, Marion Sterling, commented, “Glad Eric was able to help Lauren keep her company, now she needs to get that contract signed before Jack figures out that Eric was just a cover.” Rebekah Wolf, on the other hand, gushed, “Watching Lauren outVictor Jack, with Eric’s help was great!”

Meanwhile, others offered their suggestions for an alternative storyline. “I would’ve loved to see Forrester & Fenmore’s merge and intertwine the two shows. I would be happy to see Brooke sleep with someone outside of the Forrester family,” fan Shana Holsted wrote. Cin Cat, commented, “Watched it yesterday but it was a waste of time. Bringing him back was boring and I think the writers have nothing to do with Lauren’s storyline. Advice? Send her packing to Europe for a couple of months with Lily. Another, Joyce Rankin, didn’t think the crossover was important. She commented, “Did we really need to see Eric on “Y&R?” didn’t think it was necessary. Lauren is so arrogant.”

Over on Twitter, here are some of the fans’ feedback:
