Young contender Shiane Hawke said goodbye to the X Factor stage after she got booted out of the competition.

The 14-year-old came up against boy band The Collective who also received the least votes and wound up in the bottom two for the first time.

Both Hawke and The Collective had been hot favorites to win the competition at the finale in two weeks and the judges were clearly floored by the result.

In a sudden-death sing-off, The Collective took to the stage first with a rendition of As Long As You Love Me by Justin Bieber. Hawke, on the other hand, sang The Calling's Wherever You Will Go but her emotions got the better of her and she struggled to stay in key.

With Natalie Bassingthwaighte voting to keep her charge Hawke in the competition and Ronan Keating standing by the band, it was up to the other two judges on who will stay in the competition. Mel B and Guy Sebastian both began by praising the two acts but ultimately they agreed that Hawke would be the one sent home.

The young singer suffered cyber bullying from mean and shamless social media users on Twitter and Facebook labelled 14-year-old Darwin contestant a "fat bitch" and a "pig". However, the brunette stayed positive.

"Not everyone can love you. "With love there is also hate. Pigs are cute so I just look at it that way," she said.

Online bullying has become a major issue in recent months with several high profile celebrities speaking out against the issue after TV presenter Charlotte Dawson ended up in hospital when she was attacked online.

X Factor judge Ronan Keating last week called for online bullies to cease and desist with fears fans were taking things too far. One Direction's Zayn Malik also suffered from online attacks.

Producers of the show have a counselor on hand for contestants in case they struggle with the pressure. Watch the video of the beautiful Shiane Hawke below.
