Marvin Isley, the bassist and youngest member of the hit-making soul and funk band Isley Brothers, has died. He was 56.

A spokesperson confirmed Isley's passing, stating that he died on Sunday morning at Chicago's Weiss Memorial Hospital from complications of diabetes.

Isley was forced to retire in 1997 because both of his legs had to be amputated due to complications from his battle with diabetes..

The New Jersey-bred originally formed a trio with older brother Ernie and brother-in-law Chris Jasper, starting out as a vocal group with hits such as 1959's 'Shout' and 1962's 'Twist and Shout'.

The trio then joined older brothers, O' Kelly Jr., Rudolph, and Ronald to form The Isley Brothers where they then released other classics like 'What It Comes Down To', 'Fight the Power', and 'For the Love of You'.

The group was inducted into the Rock & Roll hall of Fame in 1992.
