The Hanson trio rocketed to fame in the 90's with one wildly infectious song. More than a decade later, will their similarly named beer be just as addictive?

Brothers Isaac, 31, Taylor, 28, and Zac, 26, will soon be venturing into the beer industry with their own brew - an Indian pale ale they have dubbed MMMHop.

They made the unexpected announcement at Oxford University on Monday, after treating the audience to a couple of their most famous songs.

"What is vital is that Hanson merchandise is quality and not made solely with the purpose of profit," Zac explains to the crowd.

"It's vital our fans have trust in everything Hanson do. We are soon going to be selling our own beer. I'm not joking - MMMHop IPA anyone?" the youngest Hanson adds.

The Grammy-winning trio was inspired to call their ale MmmHop after X-Factor contestant Janet Devlin forgot the words to the 1997 hit.

"She seemed really nervous and she did a pretty p**s-poor job of it. It sounded like she was singing it as straight as possible. It was like she didn't remember the song," Zac says in an interview.

In an interview with MSN Music, the pop band says reality shows are ultimately not about the music or the artists, but "the focus of those shows is about making entertainment for the TV audience. At its core, I don't think those shows are about finding the kind of artists that will be the voice of a generation for instance."

Still, at least they got a catchy name out of Devlin's performance. MMMHop is set to be out in the market by early 2012.

While their best-known song is more than a decade old, the Hanson brothers haven't been lying low and living off their royalties. The trio are building a solid merchandise brand, which includes their records, a record player, the upcoming beer and a board game called Hansonopoly.
