YouTube’s First Music Awards: The Nominees (See Video)
Now fans has the power to pick for winners as the first YouTube Music Video is now officially open for voting. The Google-owned video site is matching MTV's Video Music Awards to gather more users to its vast collection of music videos, including Vevo videos.
The first Youtube Music Awards nominees includes Taylor Swift, Rihanna, One Direction, Nicki Minaj, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga and the controversial Miley Cyrus. It also features several popular homegrown musical acts and live performances from entertainment superstars like Arcade Fire, Eminem ad Lady Gaga.
The awards night is scheduled to be held at New York City's Pier 26 on November 3, YouTube will have live streaming of five music events live from Tokyo, Seoul, London, Rio and Moscow starting at 5AM EST of the same day. The event will be hosted by actor-musician Jason Schwartzman and comedian-musician Reggie Watts.
There are six categories in this music awards and that includes; video and artist of the year, "response" of the year (Top unofficial fan videos), YouTube Phenomenon (trends like Harlem Shake, Gangnam Style and other songs that generated a lot of traffic for the site), YouTube Breakthrough, and Innovation of the Year.
The nominees are picked based on YouTube data accumulated between September 2012 and August 2013, the award metric includes video comments, subscription, likes, shares and other YouTube fan engagement stats.
The nominees in each category are:
- Video of the Year - videos with most fan engagement: Miley Cyrus, "We Can't Stop"; Justin Bieber (feat. Nicki Minaj), "Beauty and a Beat"; Lady Gaga, "Applause"; One Direction, "Best Song Ever"; PSY, "Gentleman"; Macklemore & Ryan Lewis (feat. Mary Lambert) "Same Love"; Girls' Generation "I Got A Boy"; Demi Lovato, "Heart Attack"; Selena Gomez, "Come & Get It"; Epic Rap Battles Of History, "Barack Obama vs Mitt Romney."
- Artist of the Year - most watched, shared, liked, and subscribed-to artists: Eminem, Epic Rap Battles of History, Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Nicki Minaj, One Direction, PSY, Rihanna, Taylor Swift
- Response of the Year - best fan remix, parody or response video: Boyce Avenue (feat. Fifth Harmony) "Mirrors"; Jayesslee, "Gangnam Style"; Lindsey Stirling and Pentatonix, "Radioactive"; ThePianoGuys, "Titanium/Pavane"; Walk Off the Earth (feat. KRNFX), "I Knew You Were Trouble"
