TV host Giuliana Rancic sparked outrage on social media when she criticized singer Zendaya’s hairstyle during the 2015 Oscars ceremony. The latest reports on the Zendaya-Giuliana Rancic controversy claim Zendaya has responded to the public apology of the “Fashion Police” host over her comment that the young singer “smells like patchouli oil” because of her dreadlocks.
“Giuliana, I appreciate your apology and I'm glad it was a learning experience for you and for the network,” Zendaya posted on her Instagram account zendaya on Wednesday, Feb. 25. In a People report, actress Whoopi Goldberg revealed what she found offensive with Giuliana Rancic’s comments. “The View” host explained that it is a stereotype that Giuliana Rancic put on because she had dreads for 40 years but she never smelled like patchouli.
Giuliana Rancic made her public apology to Zendaya on Tuesday, Feb. 24, Us Weekly reports. The 40-year-old E!News correspondent and “Fashion Police” host stated that she would like to address the controversial issue that has been weighing very heavy on her heart and apologize as well to everyone who found her remarks about Zendaya’s hairstyle offensive.
Giuliana Rancic further admitted in her public apology that she did cross the line with her comment on Zendaya’s 2015 Oscars look and it has been a learning experience for her. The television personality explained that “Fashion Police” is a show that pokes fun at celebrities in good spirit and she had no intention of hurting anybody.
On Monday, Feb. 23, Zendaya posted on Instagram her thoughts on the fashion criticism she received because of her hairstyle at the 2015 Oscars red carpet. “There is a fine line between what is funny and disrespectful. To say that an 18 year old young woman with locs must smell of patchouli oil or ‘weed’ is not only a large stereotype but outrageously offensive,” the young singer shared.
