As 2012 winds up, ZTE and Samsung are now planning to have the next generation of smartphones in 2013 with octo-core or eight core processors inside their mobile devices.

ZTE is teaming up with MediaTek to launch ZTE Apache, which will feature eight-core processor smartphones. On the side of Samsung, there are speculations that the South Korean tech giant will release octo-cores too but there is no confirmation yet which of its flagship devices will benefit, the Galaxy S4 or Galaxy Note 3 or maybe both.

The processor is the brain of an electronic device which literally processes everything the user asks the device to do. The bigger the processor a device has, the more tasks can be done with the smallest time. It is also one of the keys in the duration of a battery since processors use more energy when engaged with many tasks.

Current models of high-end smartphones have quad-core processors or four cores inside the unit ranging from 1.0GHz to 1.7GHz, depending on the model. Those types of processors are already fast almost similar to the speed of high-end computers.

ZTE Apache

Based on speculations, ZTE Apache will have octo-core processor with 28nm ARM15 MT6599 chipset and 1080p HD touchscreen, although the overall size is still unconfirmed. It is said to support WCDMA, 4G LTE, and will be equipped with 13MP camera. Nothing else so far is known about the other specifications of the upcoming rumoured smartphone.

ZTE announced on Sunday the availability of the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean experience version on its N88OE Android smartphone, making it the first Chinese vendor to roll out an Android smartphone with Android 4.2.

Samsung Galaxy

Two flagship devices from Samsung are to be expected in 2013, the Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3, which will surely offer innovations from their predecessors. Samsung is currently working for octo-core processors as well to expand the companion Nvidia Tegra 3 chipset.

According to speculations, the technology will add another chipset to the quad-cores, and each quad-core has assigned tasks. The idea is that four Cortex A15 cores will be used for high-demand tasks and the four Cortex A7 cores will focus on background processes. And if the demand is less, A7 will kick in and A15 will turn off to avoid excessive battery usage.

Samsung Galaxy S4 is speculated to bring a powerful screen display which will match up or even beat devices such as Droid DNA and iPhone 5. It is rumoured to have a 5-inch 1080p OLED display with 441 pixels per inch feature.
