20 Dead, 43 Injured in Philippine Earthquake (VIDEOS & PHOTOS)
Besides damaging historic and cultural landmarks in the Philippine provinces of Bohol and Cebu, the 7.2 magnitude earthquake also caused the death of 20 residents and injury to 43, so far, reports said.
Of the 20 dead, 15 are from Cebu, 4 from Bohol where the epicenter of the earthquake is and one in Siquijor Island, located southwest of Bohol.
According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, the tremor registered as Intensity 7 in Tagbilaran, Bohol; 6 in Inigaran, Negros Occidental; 5 in Iloilo City and La Carlota, Negros Occidental; 4 in Masbate City, Roxas City, and San Jose, Culasi, Antique and Guihulngan, Negros Occidental; and 3 in Davao City.
To help these affected provinces, the spokesperson of the Office of the President said there is a P5.9 million standby fund for Region VI and another P2.84 million for Region VII, although it surely not be enough to rebuild the damaged infrastructures and provide for basic needs of affected residents.
So far, there has been 110 aftershocks.
Among the damaged infrastructures are the Loboc and Baclayon Churches in Bohol and the Santo Nino Church, Gaisano Country Mall and Cebu Doctors Hospital in Cebu.
